COMETS | Autonomous Casualty Simulator

COMETS is designed from its initial concept to the specifications of the Army Medical Department Center and School (AMEDD C&S). It will be a tetherless, battery operated, durable, fully-armored 190-pound full-body simulator providing training in battlefield tactical care, including airway management, hemorrhage control, chest trauma, CBRNE training, shock resuscitation, field management of multiple simultaneous casualties, and multi-system injury, in both conscious and unconscious configurations. Because it will be portable and self-contained, COMETS will allow medic sustainment training to proficiency during long deployments. COMETS will enable an important Army training doctrine: “Train like you fight and fight like you trained”.

COMETS’ innovative design includes continuous physiology, where on board sensors and processors integrate body responses to trauma treatment; transfer of care so that COMETS can be transported while still responding to treatment; and time integrated milestones of care, where treatment is linked to individual medics over time. These overarching design concepts will produce a stand-alone training system that will live or die based upon the treatment it receives. This system will not stop. Its operation will not require the continuous presence of an instructor, thereby enabling instructors to devote more time to coaching and training.
