Current Professional Experience:

Lead Investigator in tissue property measurement and modeling. Developer, electro-mechanical systems for medical/surgical trainers

Background:
Dr. Mark Ottensmeyer graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1994, summa cum laude, in mechanical engineering and management. He received a masters and Ph.D. from M.I.T. in 1996 and 2001, respectively. His masters work focused on developing a teleoperated laparoscopy system for examining the effects of long distance time lag on surgeon performance, while the Ph.D. work led to the development of a minimally invasive instrument for measuring solid organ mechanical properties. He has been working as a Lead investigator in the Simulation Group at CIMIT since that time, continuing the measurement of tissue properties, and developing hardware systems for the Simulation Group medical/surgical trainers.
